How Many Americans Are Waiting for Decisions on Medicaid Coverage?

Many states are facing a much higher than normal number of applications from people who may qualify for Medicaid. The high volume and technical problems have led to piles of unprocessed applications in some areas. Other states have managed to avoid major delays.

CQ Roll Call collected statistics from states about the number of low-income people who applied for coverage and are still waiting for their applications to be processed. The map below shows a snapshot of numbers reported by states in late May. States are working to enroll people so the numbers will change over time. Click on any state for details.
